During the meeting in Syria's capital of Damascus on Saturday, the Iranian foreign minister described the recent visit by Syrian President Bashar Assad to Tehran and his meeting with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and senior Iranian officials as historic and also a turning point in Tehran-Damascus relations.
He underlined that Iran and Syrian enjoy common stances on the ongoing developments of the region.
Iran understands Turkey's concerns on security issues and strongly opposes any military attempts with any justification, he underscored, adding that Iran works to resolve the existing misunderstandings between Turkey and Syria through diplomacy and political dialogue.
Amirabdollahian, heading a delegation arrived in Damascus, Syria on Saturday.
Upon his arrival at Damascus airport, Amirabdollahian was officially welcomed by his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad.
The Iranian minister of foreign affairs visited Damascus in September 2021 in order to take part in the Regional Conference to Support Iraq and met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as well as his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad.
